This is the view of a typical workplace of a goldsmith. The middle
pointed piece of wood is used to press the working-piece against it that
has to be filed for example. It is the main purpose, but it is also used
to give countersupport when pressure is needed to give the material a special
form.
The metal-plate is used to smooth material or to arrange several
pieces to see if they fit together.
Underneath, but hard to see frome here there is a skin from leather
or a wooden box to catch the filings from the precious metals. From these
filings it is possible to reclaim the fine precious metals.
